Ikebana in Morocco

Making ikebana wherever I go has become a way of getting to know new people and new places. What a privilege! From August 2022, my new home country is Morocco. What a festival of colors, and designs! Morocco has different climate zones so that the variety and diversity of flowers and plants are indeed great. On the other hand, Morocco has tradition in making pottery. So, all the ingredients for making ikebanas are all around me.

This beautiful pottery vase was bought at the Oulja pottery market in Sale. Here i show three different arrangements in the same vase. As pottery does not hold water, the flowers are placed in small plastic tubes so that they can have access to water.

This glass vase was bought in the local shop, Kitea, and is really a good nageire (tall vase used for nageire arrangements) vase. Here I show different ways one can use this vase, both with vertical and horisontal types of arrangements.

This low vase used for moribana arrangements (with metal pin holder called kenzan) was also bought at Oulja pottery market. This vase can hold water so it is perfect for moribana.

Another locally made vase, but this one is ceramics. I used the eucalyptus tree bark, sago palm leaf and cockscomb flower to complement the beautiful flower drawings on the vase.
The search for suitable materials and vases continues…
